The BJP is planning a major programme in Varanasi on October 7 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years in public life, with the day set to coincide with the culmination of two youth-led yatras connecting his birthplace Vadnagar in Gujarat with his parliamentary constituency Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
October 7 marks 25 years since PM Modi took oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001, beginning the phase of his public life that the BJP is celebrating through its month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’. BJP national president Nitin Nabin announced the campaign in September, with the party scheduling a series of service and outreach programmes leading up to October 7.

A key feature of the campaign is the twin ‘Seva Yatra’ programme between Vadnagar and Varanasi. Ten teams are travelling from Vadnagar to Varanasi, while another 10 teams are travelling in the opposite direction, covering different routes across 10 states. Around 1,000 young people are participating in the two-way yatras.
The yatras began on September 17, PM Modi’s 76th birthday, and are scheduled to conclude on October 7. The journeys cover towns, districts, talukas and villages, with the Seva Yatris undertaking outreach and service activities along the routes and interacting with villagers, farmers, Anganwadi workers, youth groups and students.
The two-way journey is also intended to symbolically connect Vadnagar, where PM Modi was born, with Varanasi, the Lok Sabha constituency he has represented since 2014. The BJP described Varanasi as PM Modi’s ‘karmabhoomi’ and Vadnagar as his ‘janmabhoomi’.
The October 7 programme will also include religious ceremonies. According to the BJP’s announced plan, the yatras are linked to prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi and the Hatkeshwar Mahadev Temple in Vadnagar.
The BJP separately planned ‘Seva Jyoti Yatra’ programmes across districts on October 7, along with collective pledges linked to the party’s ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ campaign. The party also announced motorcycle and cycle rallies, padyatras and service activities across the country for the milestone.
In Varanasi, the BJP is preparing for a large gathering as the yatras reach their destination. The celebrations are expected to bring together BJP leaders, workers and the Seva Yatris participating in the Vadnagar-Varanasi journeys.
The October 7 celebrations will form part of the larger ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, which began on September 17 and is scheduled to continue until October 17. The campaign includes blood donation camps, cleanliness drives, outreach at Anganwadi centres, school competitions, beneficiary interactions, service activities and youth-focused programmes.
