IAF to stage Wings Over Ganges display in Varanasi, Oct 22-25

Varanasi will host the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Air Force Day Aerial Display-2026, titled “Wings Over Ganges,” from October 22 to October 25 at Namo Ghat, Uttar Pradesh. The event marks the 94th anniversary of the Indian Air Force and will feature fighter aircraft, aerobatic formations and helicopter displays.

Wing Commander Debartho Dhar, public relations officer and spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence in Prayagraj, said the display will showcase the force’s flying capabilities against the backdrop of the Ganga River and the historic city of Varanasi.

The IAF’s Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team and Sarang Helicopter Display Team will participate, demonstrating aerobatic manoeuvres, precision flying and coordinated formations. The display will include several aircraft such as the Tejas, Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachand, IL-76, IL-78, C-295 and AN-32, alongside frontline fighters like the Sukhoi Su-30MKI and Rafale.

Aircraft from the Indian Navy and Indian Army are also scheduled to take part, highlighting joint operational capabilities. The event aims to increase public awareness about the Indian Air Force and encourage youth to consider careers in aviation and aerospace technology.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the training, technology and coordination involved in aerial operations, according to the statement. The theme “Wings Over Ganges” connects Varanasi’s cultural heritage with the operational strength of the Indian Air Force, using the Ganga as a scenic backdrop for the display.

This event is expected to be a key component of the Air Force Day celebrations, offering residents and visitors the chance to witness the IAF’s aircraft and display teams in action.
