A grand rehearsal for the air show is underway in Varanasi on Wednesday. At Namo Ghat, commandos descended from a helicopter onto a cruise ship. They sprang into action in the blink of an eye and returned to the helicopter by climbing a rope shortly afterwards.
Fighter jets, including the Rafale and Sukhoi, performed aerial manoeuvres in the sky. The roar of the Rafale echoed across Namo Ghat. The fighter jets thrilled spectators by flying extremely low over the Ganga in a low-level flypast. The air show began with the Surya Kiran aerobatic team.
At the ghat, the Air Force provided information about the fighter jets and their flights. CCTV cameras are monitoring the entire premises. Spectators were allowed entry after undergoing three layers of security checks.
The air show is being organised to mark the 94th anniversary of the Indian Air Force. It will take place over three days — October 22, 23 and 25. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also attend the air show on October 25.
A total of 100 aircraft took part in the rehearsal, including 52 fighter jets, 15 transport aircraft, 32 helicopters and the vintage aircraft Sarnath. These aircraft arrived after taking off from 12 airports across the country.
