Now, get rid of old, junk electronic items at home; Varanasi civic body will collect e-waste
In an effort to make Kashi clean and environmentally friendly, the Varanasi Municipal Corporation has taken a significant step to ensure the safe disposal of electronic waste (e-waste).
Under this initiative, the Municipal Corporation has authorised “AddMyBin” to collect e-waste. The objective of this initiative is to prevent old and damaged electronic devices from being mixed with general waste and ensure their recycling in an environmentally friendly manner.
City Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal said that e-waste will now be collected door-to-door across the city. The citizens or institutions involved will be paid a fair price for the e-waste collected. Special awareness sessions and collection drives will also be conducted to educate the public about the safe disposal of e-waste. This facility will not be limited to homes; old electronic devices will also be collected from offices, schools, colleges, various institutions, industries, and bulk waste generators.
The Municipal Corporation has appealed to Kashi residents not to mix old electronic devices with general waste and to keep them separate and hand them over only to authorised agencies. For e-waste pickup, citizens can book via QR code or contact the helpline number 8335955000.
Under the campaign, various types of e-waste will be collected, including computers, laptops, monitors, mobile phones, tablets, printers, scanners, refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers, air conditioners, geysers, microwave ovens, kitchen appliances, batteries, cells, chargers, cables, networking equipment, routers, switches, stabilisers, inverters, UPS, circuit boards (PCBs), home theatres, audio systems, and televisions (LED, LCD, and CRT).
To donate e-waste, citizens must first contact the helpline number or QR code. A convenient date and time for pickup will then be scheduled. At the designated time, an AddMyBin team will arrive at the location to collect the e-waste and offer a fair price in exchange. The collected e-waste will then be recycled through scientific processes by safely sending it through authorised channels.
