Varanasi secured the top position among Uttar Pradesh districts in the August 2026 Health Ranking Dashboard, recording a composite score of 0.81 after a 30.65 per cent improvement over July.

Varanasi Secures Top Spot in UP

Varanasi has emerged as the best-performing district in Uttar Pradesh in the state Health Ranking Dashboard for August 2026.

According to the August data, Varanasi recorded a composite score of 0.81, placing it ahead of the other districts in the state. The district's score improved by 30.65 per cent compared with July.

The ranking is based on multiple public-health indicators monitored by the Uttar Pradesh health department.

Maternal and Child Health Indicators

The dashboard tracks several indicators related to maternal and child healthcare, including antenatal care, institutional deliveries, newborn care and immunisation.

Varanasi recorded 100 per cent achievement for pregnant women receiving four or more antenatal check-ups along with haemoglobin testing, according to the latest reporting on the August dashboard data.

These indicators are used to assess the coverage and delivery of essential maternal healthcare services at the district level.

100% TB Notification Rate

The district also recorded 100 per cent performance on the TB notification indicator in August.

TB notification is an important public-health measure because timely identification and reporting of tuberculosis cases is linked to diagnosis, treatment and disease-control efforts.

Health officials have attributed the improvement to regular monitoring of performance indicators and closer attention to service delivery.

HIV Screening Also Records Full Achievement

Varanasi also reported 100 per cent achievement in HIV screening among pregnant women during August, according to the published dashboard-related data.

The indicator forms part of the maternal-health monitoring framework and helps ensure that pregnant women are screened and referred for appropriate care where required.

The combination of maternal-health, TB and HIV indicators contributed to the district's overall performance.

Muzaffarnagar and Lucknow Follow

Muzaffarnagar and Lucknow were among the other top-performing districts in the August ranking.

Both districts recorded a composite score of 0.73, placing them behind Varanasi's 0.81 score.

The monthly ranking allows the state health department and district administrations to compare performance across different health indicators and identify areas requiring improvement.

Dashboard Tracks Multiple Services

The Uttar Pradesh Health Dashboard tracks indicators across areas including maternal and child health, institutional deliveries, immunisation, family planning, TB notification and HIV screening.

The official UP Health Dashboard describes its system as a platform for tracking health-service performance across the state. It provides monthly reports, indicator rankings and geographical comparisons, with data available for analysis at different administrative levels.

The State of Health-UP application, operated by the National Health Mission, also provides key health indicators and metrics based on service data entered into the state's eKavach system.

Focus on Sustaining Performance

Health officials have said the ranking should not be viewed only as an achievement but also as a basis for continuing improvement.

Chief Medical Officer Dr N.P. Singh said the August performance would be used as motivation to improve individual health indicators further.

The emphasis is particularly important because monthly rankings can change depending on performance across individual indicators.

What the August Ranking Shows

Varanasi's first position reflects its combined performance across several monitored health services rather than a single indicator.

The 30.65 per cent improvement over July indicates a substantial month-on-month increase in the district's composite score.

For the district administration and health department, the next challenge will be maintaining the performance while improving indicators that remain below state benchmarks.

The August ranking also provides a comparative picture of health-service delivery across Uttar Pradesh and gives district officials a basis for identifying gaps and planning corrective measures.
