The Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), Banaras Hindu University (BHU), the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) and the Uttar Pradesh government, will organise the fifth edition of Kashi Tamil Sangamam.

The event will be held from November 28 to December 12, 2026, across various locations. Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Education, has inaugurated the registration portal on October 22.

Eligible applicants who want to participate in the programme can start the online registration process. They can register through the official website, kashitamil.iitm.ac.in . The last date to apply for the event is November 13. The event will strengthen the cultural and educational connections between Tamil Nadu and Kashi, two important centres of learning.

The theme for this edition is “Thirukkural Payilvom – Thirukkural Abhyas Karen”, which will focus on introducing the teachings of the classical Tamil text Thirukkural to young people and learners across the country.

Kashi Tamil Sangamam 5.0: Eligibility, itinerary

Applications are invited under seven categories: students, teachers, writers and media professionals, agriculture and allied sectors, professionals and artisans, women, and spiritual leaders.

Around 1,400 participants from Tamil Nadu will be divided into seven groups with approximately 200 members each. The programme will include cultural, academic and spiritual engagements.

The groups will undertake an eight-day itinerary that includes four days of travel and four days of visits and structured programmes in Varanasi, Prayagraj and Ayodhya.

KTS 5.0 will engage students across 1,000 institutions

The Ministry of Education will launch a nationwide student engagement programme across 1,000 higher education institutions that will help learners understand the values and teachings of the Thirukkural.

The activities will include structured study, research and campus-based initiatives. Experts from Tamil Nadu will also visit different schools and colleges in Varanasi to conduct interactive sessions, quizzes and educational activities.

The National Book Trust, in collaboration with Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya, will organise sessions on reading habits, storytelling and creative learning. The previous four editions helped people from Tamil Nadu and Kashi share their knowledge, languages and traditions.
